Longreach Tour Package

DAY 1 

MOREE

We travel up the range and onto Glen Innes where we have a scrumptious morning tea amongst the standing stones. Our road from here takes us through the Sapphire rich town of Inverell and onto the historic town of Bingara where we visit the famous Roxy Theatre and Museum after a picnic lunch on the banks of the Gwydir River.

After lunch we head to the agricultural hub of the Artesian Plains at Moree and bunk down for the night at the Artesian Spa Motel, enjoy a drink at Happy Hour and a swim in their private thermal pools. Dinner is at the motel and so is breakfast the next morning.

DAY 2 

BOURKE

After a hearty breakfast, we head west to Collarenebri where we will stop for morning tea before continuing on to Bourke.

Our lunch stop will be at the historic Port of Bourke Hotel, followed by a full afternoon visiting The Back 0′ Bourke Exhibition Centre and a River Boat cruise on the PV Jandra. After a freshen up & Happy Hour at the Darling River Motel, we will head a few klms out of town to Kidman’s Camp for a relaxed night beneath a Coolabah Tree under the starlit sky, with a campfire of Gidgee coals, whilst sharing a scrumptious meal and experiencing some exceptional Australian poetry, local stories & music. (weather and water in the river permitting).

DAY 3 

CHARLEVILLE

Early breakfast for a big day ahead. We travel north over the Qld border to Cunnamulla where we will have morning tea with the delightful Pietre at the Club Boutique Hotel before heading on to our next desti¬nation Charleville. Here we will be staying at The Hotel Corones, the most famous historic landmark in Charleville, where we will be treated to a behind the scenes tour & if you love a great story, there’s a great one here to be told! We will also unlock the secrets of the USAAF Base with the Top Secret WWII Tour and end the day with a Big Sky Twilight session at the Cosmos Centre then back to the Hotel for Dinner. (Warm clothes required for Star Gazing)

DAY 4 

LONGREACH

Early breakfast again as we head North West to Longreach, stopping along the way for morning tea and lunch. Once again we travel through places you’ve only heard of in songs by the likes of Slim Dusty – Augathella, Tambo, Blackall & Barcaldine, stop for a group photo at the Black Stump and visit the statue of the famous ‘Gun Shearer’ Jackie Howe. A quick stop for a drink at the Wellshot Hotel at Ilfracombe (where you might even meet Sean the Sheep and Gertie the Goat) and travel past the Ilfracombe Machinery Mile and Heritage Museum, then its finally on to Longreach.

This afternoon we will check into our motel to freshen up and then off to visit one of the highlights of our Outback Adventure – the Legendary QANTAS Founders Museum where we will have a guided tour of the Museum, 747 and Super Constellation, followed by a fabulous dinner at the Outback Pioneers Stonegrill (with an all you can eat side & dessert bar) to bring our day to an end.

DAY 5 

LONGREACH

Today we get the full outback experience! We start the morning with a visit to Strathmore Station & learn about Santa Gertrudis cattle and Merino wool production. Hear how these third-generation graziers made water run uphill. Back at the homestead you’ll have time to wander the tranquil gardens and enjoy some warm Outback hospitality including the delicious home-baked morning tea.

Later we head into town for the hilarious Harry Redford Old Time Tent Show with a Billy-Can Lunch, then its off to the famous Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre. Inside, there are five themed galleries, each one depicting an important aspect of our pioneering history.

We head back to the Motel to refresh before heading out to board the historic paddle wheeler the Thomson Princess Riverboat and enjoy a gentle cruise down the majestic Thomson River before going ashore for a traditional stockman’s camp-fire dinner and bush poetry with a local outback storyteller. Next, the bush is illuminated by the Starlight’s Spectacular Sound & Light Picture Show – a unique big-screen presentation featuring the Kinnon & Co family and locals in the amazing adventures of the notorious cattle thief known as ‘Captain Star¬light’. Finally, in the atmospheric surroundings of the bush at night, enjoy the timeless favourite – billy tea and damper. Ah the serenity!

DAY 6 

WINTON

Today, you are in for a treat as we head to Winton – the Dinosaur Capital of Australia, home of Waltzing Matilda and Queensland’s Boulder Opal.

First stop -Australian Age of the Dinosaurs – home to the world’s largest collection of Australian.. dinosaur fossils. At the museum you’ll see and hear about their exciting finds of unique dinosaurs that lived 100 million years ago, including “Banjo”, Australia’s greatest carnivorous dinosaur. Followed by a tour through the Laboratory, Collection Room and Dinosaur Canyon. Then its off to Winton’s Waltzing Matilda Centre which tells the story of the song that lives in the hearts of all Australians! Hear about the Waltzing Matilda legend, the Qantas origins, Aboriginal cultural history, the opal mining, events such as the Shearers’ Strike and the dinosaur trail. Then Lunch at the Tuckerbox Café.

Finally, we will venture down town where we may have time to visit the Corfield and Fitzmaurice building and the Diamantina Heritage Truck and Machinery Museum before heading back for our last dinner in Longreach.

DAY 7 

SPRINGSURE

Early start after breakfast to begin our homerun. A relaxing day today travelling through Barcaldine where we see the famous Tree of Knowledge and reveal its history as the Birthplace of the Labour Party

and the site of the first Australian shearer’s strike; onto Jericho for morning tea at the Crystal Trumpeters and across the road from Australia smallest operating Drive-In Theatre. Then its on to the Gemfields town of Rubyvale for lunch and a visit to the Rubyvale Gem Gallery before departing for our final destination Springsure just south of Emerald and the gateway to the Carnarvon Gorge. Dinner tonight will be at the motel.

DAY 8 

ROMA

After breakfast we start our journey to Roma, travelling through the towns of Rolleston, the closest town to the Carnarvon Gorge and Injune where we will stop for morning tea. We will arrive in Roma around lunchtime which will give us plenty of time to enjoy the local sites such as Roma’s Largest Bottle Tree, St Pauls Church Leadlights, 3D Heritage Mural visit The Big Rig – Oil Patch Museum and settle into our accommodation at the Pioneer Motor Inn. After Happy Hour we head back for The Big Rig – The Night Show Sunset Experience before being treated to a scrumptious dinner back at our motel.

DAY 9 

TOOWOOMBA

Early breakfast today as we need to be away by 8.00am for a tour of the famous Roma Saleyards – the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, where around 400000 cattle are auctioned annually. We then get on the road to continue our journey, stopping at the Chinchilla Botanical Parkland for morning tea and then through Dalby and on to the Garden City of Toowoomba for lunch. Toowoomba in Springtime is something special, so we will explore the city’s floral displays visiting Queens Park, the spectacular Picnic Point Parkland Lookout and then on to the breathtakingly beautiful Japanese Gardens before heading to the Platinum International for our final night together with Happy Hour and Dinner. (Tiaras and Tuxedoes optional)

DAY 10 

HOME

Last Day! After a relaxed breakfast we head down the mountain for our final journey home.

We will travel via the Gold Coast and onto the M1 Pacific Motorway to Ballina for lunch, then on to Grafton and Coffs Harbour where we will bid farewell to all of our fellow travellers who have made this incredible journey with us.

So to all, “So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, goodnight “, till we meet again for our next adventure!
